Full Time Teaching Artist in Cincinnati

 

Location: Cincinnati, OH

 

Empowering students through Hip-Hop: Refresh Collective is seeking a dynamic Teaching Artist to lead our full-time therapeutic hip-hop classroom serving at-risk youth ages 14-18 in a specialized school setting. This role combines expert-level hip-hop instruction with trauma-informed care to create a safe, engaging environment that helps students recover credits, build confidence, and develop pathways to graduation.

  • Therapeutic Arts Instructor
  • Alternative Education Teacher
  • Community Hip-Hop Educator
  • Youth Development Specialist with Arts Focus
  • Music Therapist with Hip-Hop Specialization

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 1+ years implementing trauma-informed care with at-risk youth
  • Expert-level hip-hop lyric writing OR beat production/music production
  • Proficiency in Logic Pro X (required)
  • Experience working in alternative education, therapeutic, or high-needs school environments
  • Demonstrated cultural credibility within hip-hop community

Education Requirements:

  • Minimum: 2-year degree (any field)
  • Preferred: 4-year degree in Education, Teaching, Music Education, or related field
  • Additional certifications in trauma-informed care, youth development, or music therapy preferred

Essential Qualities:

  • Authentic connection to hip-hop culture (not just academic knowledge)
  • Proven ability to build trust with challenging youth populations
  • High emotional intelligence and de-escalation skills
  • Flexibility to work with both long-term (year-round) and short-term (2-4 week) students
  • Commitment to Refresh Collective's core values and mission
